Modern defence operations require people to train, collaborate and make decisions across locations, domains and organisations. At the same time, the modern battlefield is changing where and how command functions can safely operate.
Fynd CORE provides a virtual, scenario-based environment for tactical and joint training, enabling commanders, decision-makers and staff to train and collaborate in real time, regardless of their physical location. Fynd CORE can be utilized to simulate complex decision-making situations for decision makers managers and staffs. The users can participate in training from their own computer, mobile, tablet or with VR glasses.
The war in Ukraine has reinforced an important reality for modern defence: concentrating commanders and staff in one physical location can create vulnerability to detection and attack. Distributed operations offer a different approach.
With a virtual command environment, commanders, decision-makers and staff can remain physically dispersed while meeting, planning and interacting in a shared operational space. This can reduce the physical signature of a command function while maintaining the communication, coordination and shared situational understanding needed to operate effectively.
Our work in this area has been developed and tested through projects with the Norwegian Armed Forces and through three consecutive years of participation in the NATO Innovation Continuum under the auspices of NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) and Allied Command Transformation (ACT).
Modern operations generate enormous amounts of information. The challenge is not simply collecting more data. It is presenting the right information in a way that helps people understand it and act on it.
Fynd CORE creates interactive 3D scenarios where information from different operational domains can be visualised within a common environment. Air, land, maritime, subsea, cyber and space activities can be represented together, helping users understand relationships, identify potential conflicts and discuss different decision points in context.
Animations and scenario elements can be added according to the tactical or operational situation, allowing teams to explore how an operation may develop over time. Fynd CORE can build on existing data sources and present relevant information spatially in an intuitive 3D environment. The goal is simple: make complex information easier to understand so people can focus on making better decisions.
In Fynd CORE we create scenarios that illustrates and visualizes the different domains, making them easier to understand, and make it possible to deconflict between the different air-altitudes, at land and sea, subsea, cyber and space domains.
Heimdall Exercise 2026, facilitated by Centre of Excellence Cold Weather Operations, was conducted above the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. During the exercise, Fynd Reality gained hands-on experience integrating the Virtual Tactical Operations Centre (VTOC) with a live TAK server in a complex, multi-participant environment.
This demonstrated how a virtual environment can move beyond standalone simulation and interact with operational data sources, bringing distributed participants and information together within a shared environment.
The Heimdall 2026 Exercise above the Arctic Circle in northern Norway in February 2026, provided valuable hands-on experience integrating the Virtual Tactical Operations Centre (VTOC) with a live TAK-server in a complex, multi-participant environment.
Teams can rehearse operational plans, discuss decision points and practise communication and coordination before conducting an operation. Scenarios can be adapted as the exercise develops, allowing instructors to introduce new information, events or challenges and observe how participants respond.
At the tactical level, Fynd Reality has worked with the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment and the Norwegian Army on a Virtual Tactical Operations Centre concept at brigade level. During Rehearsal of Concept activities with Brigade Nord, staff have used virtual environments to interact around tactical scenarios and discuss key decision points within operational plans.

The traditional command post, a physical location bringing together staff, specialists and decision-makers, creates a significant vulnerability in wartime. Concentrating key personnel in one place can create a visible and high-value target, particularly as modern surveillance, drones and precision strike capabilities make command locations increasingly difficult to conceal.
A distributed approach changes this. Instead of requiring people to gather physically, a secure virtual environment can connect commanders and staff who remain geographically dispersed while operating together in a shared operational space.
For Fynd Reality, this is where immersive training and operational collaboration converge. Fynd CORE enables defence organisations to explore and rehearse distributed ways of working, strengthen communication and decision-making, and prepare personnel for increasingly complex, multi-domain operations.
On the modern battlefield, bringing the right people together should not require bringing them to the same place.
